International District Missionaries’ Unit 

Dr. Rosella Burks Scholarship

The International District Missionary Unit offers the Dr. Rosella Burks Scholarship to deserving applicants seeking to advance their education. Applicants are expected to exhibit exceptional academic and professional capabilities. Eligibility encompasses high school seniors and full-time undergraduates enrolled in accredited colleges, business, or vocational schools, specializing in business, mathematics, or music. Additionally, applicants pursuing other majors may also be considered.

Dr. Rosella Burks

Dr. Rosella Burks faithfully led the International District Missionary Unit for over 34 years, serving under three national supervisors. A devoted servant and spiritual leader, she was known for her wisdom, grace, and commitment to empowering women in ministry. Beyond her administrative gifts, she contributed richly to the Church through teaching, mentoring, and writing impactful books that continue to guide leaders today.

Scholarship Requirements

Family Legacy Eligibility

Must be a relative of a District Missionary, (i.e., daughter or son, granddaughter/grandson, great-grand-daughter/grandson).

Application & References

Submit a completed application with two (2) type-written letters of recommendation, including one from your pastor or church mother (non-family member).

Personal Statement of Purpose

Submit a Personal Statement of 500 words or less. Statement should include life goals as well as academic pursuits. Must be typed-written and double-spaced.

Academic Excellence Standard

Must show proof of cumulative 3.0 GPA. Official Transcript required.

Proof of Enrollment

Must provide letter of acceptance from college, business or vocational school.

Application Deadline

Application and required documents must be received by June 30, 2025.

Who is eligible to apply for this scholarship?

Applicants must be a descendant of a District Missionary (child, grandchild, great-grandchild).

What is the required GPA?

A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required, along with an official transcript.

Can I submit a recommendation letter from a family member?

No. One of the letters must be from your pastor or church mother and cannot be written by a family member.

What should be included in the personal statement?

The statement should be 500 words or less, typed and double-spaced, and should outline your life goals and academic pursuits.

What proof of enrollment is needed?

You must provide a letter of acceptance from a college, business, or vocational school.

When will award recipients be notified?

Applicants will receive notifications regarding award no later than September 30, 2025.
